KLS 12

Characteristics and sound properties

KLS12 uses a large, 34mm TWO34XO fabric tweeter in conjunction with a 210mm (8in.) Audax HT210FO woven-fibreglass cone mid/bass unit. This latter has low mass and therefore high sensitivity, so it needs only a limited box volume (34 litres) for good downward extension. And if you prefer the idea of a floor stander rather than a large stand mounter, you can add a space cavity which can then be filled with sand or lead shot. The best material for the box is 18mm MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard). This is common, inexpensive and easy to glue and work with. It is also fairly 'dead' acoustically as it's a composite material.

THE CROSSOVER

To attain a flat response and good electrical load characteristics, the crossover (at 2kHz) is more complex than usual, with damped notch filters in each section, plus Zobel impedance-equalising networks.
